Five tips for using stickers to boost your marketing

  23 November 2015
  • There are so many fun and inventive ways to promote your brand with sticker marketing.
It is not expensive and when it's done well, it's really effective. We've put together five top tips to help you use sticker power to spread your message.

    1. Define your goal

Work out exactly what you are trying to achieve with your sticker campaign. It could be using business stickers to spread brand awareness or prettify your packaging (or both). But you may want to encourage action - for potential customers to visit a website, engage with your social media or order a product with a discount code. Whatever your goal is, make sure you sticker design, shape, size, placement and message all work to that end.

    2. Add value

If a sticker has some value to people other than promoting your company it will go further. For instance, if a football team wins a tournament, print stickers that celebrate the victory alongside your branding and fans could spread them far and wide. Or if you have a cookware firm, put your logo on homemade jam pot labels, with a space for home cooks to write what's in the pot.

    3. Choose the right size and shape

Make sure the size, shape and look fit with the group you are aiming at, so they will want to display it proudly for all to see. Some groups, eg. skateboarders, bikers, sports fans and teenagers are more sticker-friendly than others as their boards, helmets, sports gear, lockers and college folders are fertile grounds for cool logo stickers, as long as they fit. Consider whether printing round stickers, rectangle or square stickers or custom sizes will fit best with your design and audience.

    4. Go for simple designs

Whatever your aim, with a sticker campaign, it's always best to keep it simple, and don't ask too much of the viewer. A clear logo and brand name can work well on printed labels for packaging, which also act to seal your boxes and bags. For campaigns that are aimed at getting a response, keep the text as short as possible and choose a design that works when seen from a distance.

    5. Place stickers creatively
Don't rely on others to distribute your stickers. Obviously, you can stick them liberally on your own products, letters and packages. But with permission, paid advertising or partnerships you can also get into surprising spaces where you have a captive audience. One sushi restaurant recreated the conveyor belt of their dishes on an escalator rail and saw a 38 P_ERCENT increase in foot traffic. And an underwear company chose put their labels on the bottom of tomato sauce bottles, which cafe customers had to pat to get the ketchup out.
